What is treatment for addictive illness?

Bradford Health Services will help to create a pathway to recovery for people suffering from chemical dependency. We will stand with our patients against the disease by helping them to achieve stability. We understand that each patient has been affected physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually by the disease. Physical, emotional, and social stressors are deterrents to this process.

Our patients will receive individual guidance, monitoring, and support as we work together to achieve our goal - recovery from addictive illness.

Treatment is a multi dimensional process. Patients my require help to stabilize their lives in six defined areas. The six dimensions include:

  • Withdrawal - characterized by mild to very serious and potentially fatal symptoms such as nausea, agitation, sleeplessness, tremors, seizures, and others.
  • Physical complications - patients may suffer from a wide range of physical impairments including vital organ dysfunction.
  • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders - depression, anxiety, psychosis, extreme grief and shame are possible factors affecting alcoholics and other drug addicts.
  • Resistance and Acceptance - denial is a major factor which must be addressed in treatment. Both denial of the problem and resis-tance to treatment must be overcome.
  • Relapse Triggers - areas of the patient's life which cause obsessive or compulsive behavior must be stabilized. Those locations, habits, or relationships which trigger impulses to drink or use are addressed.
  • Social/Environmental Stressors - family, legal, financial, vocational, and other aspects of a patient's life may be harmed by the effects of addictive behavior.

RECOVERY
Underlying the stabilization efforts in the six dimensions is, of course, recovery. Ultimately, recovery is a spiritual pathway. The Twelve Steps of spiritual recovery are shared and taught consistently as each patient moves through the treatment process.
